About Gaming Atlantic
Gaming Atlantic exists to report and analyze developments in casino gaming from Maine to Florida. Gaming Atlantic provides a forum for gaming professionals, researchers, public officials, regulators, analysts, journalists and casino patrons. Gaming Atlantic allows web visitors to read current news and analysis on east coast gaming and participate in interactive discussions on various themes. Gaming Atlantic also provides consulting services for government and the gaming industry.
Dr. James Karmel ("Jamie") is Gaming Atlantic's founder, publisher and chief analyst. Dr. Karmel is based in Maryland and holds a Ph.D. in History from the State University of New York at Buffalo (University at Buffalo). He is also the author of Gambling on the American Dream: Atlantic City and the Casino Era, a history of Atlantic City's casino years and the city's role in the expansion of legal casino gaming across the United States between 1989 and 2007. In addition, Dr. Karmel has written articles for the Gaming Industry Observer, the Baltimore Sun and Pennsylvania History. He is also an Associate Professor of History at Harford Community College and has presented at numerous conferences on gambling studies, oral history and early American history. Recently, he was lead historian and co-coordinator of the 30 Years, 30 Voices oral history project for the Atlantic City Free Public Library.
